Recently, I rewatched a season of one of my favorite TV shows in preparation for a new season that was about to be released. I wanted to make sure I remembered the story arc of the previous episodes and was ready for the storyline to continue to develop.

As I rewatched the twelve episodes a second time, I started to notice all the things I had missed the first time through. Previously, I had been caught up in a couple of storylines and missed several parallel subplots that were developing. The further I went into the season, the more I realized I only truly remembered three of the shows. And even then, it came down to a handful of powerful scenes. I had caught the big picture and missed so much else.

And that is why you should read the Bible more than once. You may have understood the big picture but missed numerous small subplots. Those unnoticed moments can shape your thoughts and heart as you read through them again.

We like to think we are so observant that nothing escapes our attention. The story of God and his people revealed in his word is enormous. Only when you read it over and over can you start to fill your soul completely.
